HOW SUCCESSFUL IS ARTHROSCOPIC KNEE SURGERY?
This highly advanced procedure has an over 90 percent success rate. Specialized tools are used to repair any injuries or damages, and aftercare instructions are given to help with the recovery process.
ARTHROSCOPIC KNEE RECOVERY
A bandage will be placed over the knee and most patients are sent home the same day of the surgery. The surgeon will give exercises patients can do at home to help begin movements and strengthen the joint. Some patients also get referred to a physical therapist to help move along the range of motion and increase strength.
ARTHROSCOPY KNEE SURGERY PROCEDURE
Anesthesia is given for this surgery; three different types of anesthesia may be used for this procedure including:
- Local anesthesia: The patient stays awake and the knee will be numbed with pain medicine. The patient may be given medication to help relax them as well.
- Spinal anesthesia: Also known as regional anesthesia, the medication is injected into the spine and the patient will be awake but cannot feel anything from the waist down.
- General anesthesia: The patient is put to sleep and pain-free.
Once anesthesia is given, the doctor will cut a few small incisions and insert the camera as well as the specialized tools to fix or remove the issue in the knee..
