Nowadays, healthcare management is music to Jeff McPherson’s ears, and his academic background and professional experience speak to that.
But it didn’t start out that way for McPherson. When he first landed on a college campus, the thing that was music to his ears was … music. More specifically: the tuba.
“I played tuba in high school, and from there went on to live what was my short-term dream,” McPherson said. “That was to play in the Pride of Southland Band.”
So McPherson, who is now clinic director at Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance in Knoxville and Seymour, started out as a music major at the University of Tennessee and a player in the school’s renowned Marching Band. He enjoyed playing brass as part of the “T” on game days, but he soon realized that the idea of a music career didn’t fit him to a “T.” He got closer to his niche when he veered off toward physical therapy, but he found his true place when he got into healthcare management.
