Arthroscopic Wrist Surgery

Wrist arthroscopy is wrist surgery that allows the doctor to see the inside of the wrist joint. This procedure is typically performed after an injury; a diagnosis is made and treatment can typically take place as well, all in one procedure.

Subspecialties

WRIST ARTHROSCOPY TECHNIQUE

In this procedure, small incisions are made to allow small tools and a small camera to be inserted into the joint. This allows the doctor to see the ligaments, cartilage, and bone surfaces. The camera view shows up on a large screen for easier viewing, and sometimes gets moved to another small incision area to review different parts of the wrist joint.

WRIST ARTHROSCOPY COST

Due to the ability to diagnose and treat an issue in the wrist, arthroscopy seems to be more cost-effective than traditional testing and surgery. The procedure can be used to help align fractures, wash out infections, remove the excess joint lining from inflammation, and more.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF WRIST ARTHROSCOPY?

As with any surgery, there are risks associated with wrist arthroscopy.

  • Infection
  • Damage to nerves, cartilage, or tendons
  • Stiffness
  • Loss of motion in the joint

WRIST ARTHROSCOPY RECOVERY

After surgery, a bandage will be used to limit wrist motion, protect the area, and provide pain relief. You will be encouraged to move your fingers as often as possible to help limit swelling and stiffness in the wrist. Your doctor will inform you of any limitations for activity and direct you in the care of your wound.
